for the LIVERPOOL BIENNIAL ?
Artist John Freyer is based in Richmond, Virginia USA
Through his arts and events project FIFTY FIFTY a travelling series of interdisciplinary, social arts projects he contributes to dialogue on addiction and recovery. Here’s how:
THREE separate events:
Tues 6th – FREE ICE WATER – 5pm
Creates a space for individuals to be seated in pairs and have one on one, distraction-free, uninterrupted conversations about significant turning points in their lives for one hour. Participants will add a token of their conversation to an aquamarine blue mason jar, sign and seal the lid. The jars are then put on display and photographed for the programme. They act as symbols of something fragile yet lasting.
Wed 7th – FREE HOT COFFEE – 2pm
Attendees are introduced to the rich history of coffee making of roasting, tasting and preparing.
Having made and sampled the coffees, participants will choose their own coffee which goes to a local supplier for roasting an bagging. This will be sold in The Brink for a week after.
The aim is to shed light on how creativity and participation can assist the recovery process, whilst also connecting people.
Fri 9th – FREE HOT SUPPER – 5pm
All participants from the previous two events will be given a token which is entry for the FREE HOT SUPPER on this night. Tokens can be donated to others in Recovery or someone affected by addiction in any way. A community event where we can celebrate the whole week of fifty Fifty events.
